Dance Level 1-2: Tientos

September 12 - December 12

Tuesdays 6:15pm - 7:30pm

About the Class

Tientos is a slow, grounded four count palo that offers a perfect introduction to the jondo, soulful styles of flamenco (i.e. Tientos, Tarantos, Solea, Siguiriyas). Strength and body control are required to work at the slower tempo (50-70bpm), as well as a willingness to express the profound mood of the palo.

We will be learning the basic elements of this dance, marcajes, remates, llamadas, and escobillas, and will explore threading these elements together to create a longer piece that functions within the improvisational language of the palo. The class will start with a ½ hour of technique exercises for basic braceo, floreo, footwork, and vueltas.

Dancers are expected to practice on their own outside of class at least once a week to keep up withthe pace of learning a longer choreography.

Prerequisites: Three or more years flamenco dance experience and experience learning a full length solo dance (Alegrias, Guajiras, etc.).
