Yeshe Wingerd

Guitar | Singing

Biography

Yeshe began studying Flamenco guitar at the age of 15 after being mesmerized by Carlos Saura’s documentary film Flamenco.  While attending Colorado College he completed the Chicago Arts Program, a semester arts program in Chicago where he studied Flamenco guitar under Diego Alonso and interned at the Flamenco Arts Center.  Afterwards he continued his Flamenco studies under Miguel Espinoza in Denver, and completed a BA in Music from Colorado College in 2008.

He was awarded a full scholarship to attend the prestigious Cristina Heeren Foundation of Flamenco Art in Seville, Spain from 2008-2010, and completed the beginning and intermediate Flamenco guitar programs with outstanding qualifications.

In 2010 he moved to the San Francisco Bay Area and began teaching and performing with many prominent Bay Area Flamenco artists. His passion for accompanying dance and singing led him to begin singing Flamenco in 2018, first at juergas (flamenco parties) and eventually for dance performances. Yeshe relocated from the Bay Area to Portland, OR in 2020 where he teaches Flamenco singing and guitar classes at Espacio Flamenco. He performs regularly, and most notably sang for David Romero, one of the top Flamenco dancers in the world, in the 2023 performance ¡Bailamos!.
