About the Class
This Fall, our Beginning/Intermediate dance class will begin studying a new choreography por Caña, one of the oldest documented palos of flamenco. Recognizable by its iconic ayes, Caña is a profound 12-count palo that offers students an introduction to the more jondo (deep, expressive) styles of flamenco.
This is a twice a week class (Monday/Wednesday):
On Mondays class is 6pm - 7:30pm with technique and choreography 6:00-7:00pm, and optional mixed level footwork technique 7:00-7:30pm.
On Wednesdays class meets from 6:30-7:30pm, is taught by Lillie Last and focuses on technique for Caña.
Students signed up for class twice a week receive a discount on tuition.
Students who sign up for class once a week are welcome to use the second weekly class as a make up class.
Live guitar accompaniment (depending on availability) is included with the tuition.
Beginning/Intermediate level dancers have an understanding of 12 count palmas and marcajes (paso de solea), all four sevillanas choreographies, and are able to practice at home and/or attend class twice a week. Recommended: two or more years of previous flamenco experience.
