Rachel Sidles

As a native of Seattle Rachel began her journey of dance at the age three with ballet, creative dance, and then moving into tap and jazz.  Rachel was exposed to flamenco in 1998 after renting a new release called Flamenco by Carlos Saura.  Searching for a dance combining the precise and expressive movements of jazz as well as the foot percussion of tap, Rachel was immediately drawn to flamenco- especially the music. The internal strength, versatility, concentration, and expression that flamenco requires has been an unending source of inspiration. Flamenco has given her an amazing community, connection to her Sephardic ancestry, and a powerful medium to share her story and spirit. Rachel has had the great honor of studying with Rubina Carmona, Sara de Luis, Ana Montes, Encarnación ‘La Paloma’ Jaeger, Viviana Orbeck, Amelia Moore and Eve Salonen.  Rachel continues to perform with Cuadro Azahares, and has been a guest artist at Flamenco Haven.

Michelle Alany

A passionate violinist and vocalist, Michelle Alany has delighted and wowed audiences worldwide. Specializing in a global acoustic sound that features lush strings, soulful vocals and rhythmic groove, Michelle delivers soulful interpretations of traditional and original Sephardic (Judeo-Spanish), Balkan and Israeli songs infused with her tasty Austin-blues stylings. She is at home delivering haunting Mediterranean melodies, trading shredder blues licks or gently crafting a sensuous country solo on the fly, bringing her joyous abandon and enthusiasm to any world of music. As an in-demand touring musician and recording artist, she has performed with the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, played in sold-out theaters performing silent movie film scores (http://montopolismusic.com), and brought Texas music to packed Jazz and Blues listening rooms in Austria. She works closely with top musicians and recording engineers in Austin, and is currently finishing songs for her first solo album, following the success of her first album with her band Nefesh. http://www.michellealany.com
